When's the Clambake?

It was perhaps the most important tour the agents of the Boston taxpayers will give this year. The group: Thirty taxpayers who refer to themselves as members of the "Democratic National Convention" committee that will weigh in with a nod or nay for Boston as the locale for their convention in 2004. The site: the Big Dig.

The agents did their hosting best. They served ice cream with cherries, walnuts, and fudge for the asking. Yet there was no getting around the central difficulty - that this was a tour of the mother of all construction sites, and the prized taxpayers had to be bundled in protective gear, including hard hats, tinted goggles, and fluourescent vests for an afternoon stroll across The as-yet unopened Taxpayers' Bridge.

Of the 30 taxpayers who braved the tour, peering out from under white plastic hats, some flashed a look that seemed to ask: "When's the clambake?" (15 of the group of 45 opted to visit the Kennedy library - which agent Ed. Kennedy trumpeted yesterday at a luncheon, saying the library's convention memorabilia would be of great interest).

But other taxpayers said they were reassured by seeing the work in progress, concrete mixers and all.

"I can visualize this being completed," said a taxpayer who was a former agent of the Little Rock taxpayers. "This is a real eye-opener."

Road To Penis Bridge.

In addition to 'penis bridge' verse there is some illuminating passages in this article - some of which I have excerpted here (tho reading the whole article from start to finish is worth the time):

"Because [European] peoples are such a text-oriented culture, there is an understandable tendency to equate civilization with the technology of writing, and the sort of reflective interior consciousness that that particular machine apparently constructs in human beings. The peoples of West Africa did not possess writing as we now it, and the orisha [the deities of the Yoruba (the Yoruba are a West African people)] disclose themselves not in books but in shrine, ritual, and memory. For today's text-oriented seeker, there are no great Yoruba books to commune with, no Gita or Genesis. [Few know about] the Yoruba system of divination*, called Ifa, outside the tradition, partly for the simple reason that the "writing" of Ifa is carried in the heads of the diviners, the babalawo. (A complete edition of the Ifa has recently been published by Harper San Francisco)."

"Perhaps the most famous Yoruba story about Eshu ["god" - so to speak; "man's mind" - so to speak (see below)] concerns two inseparable friends who swore undying fidelity to one another but neglect to acknowledge Eshu. These two friends work on adjacent fields. One day Eshu walks on the dividing line between their fields, wearing a cap that is black on one side and red on the other. He saunters between the fields, exchanging pleasantries with both men. Afterwards, the two friends got to talking about the man with the cap, and fall to violent quarreling about the color of the man's hat, calling each other blind and crazy. The neighbors gather about, and then Eshu arrives and stops the fight. The friends explain their disagreement, an Eshu shows them the two-sided hat--all this to chastise the friends for not putting him first in their doings. The lesson of the tale is obvious, but just as interesting is where it places Eshu. Moving along the seam between two different worldviews, Eshu confuses communication, reveals the ambiguity of knowledge, and plays with perspective."

Ed. Note - divination - the act or practise of trying to foretell the future or unknown by occult (secret) means.

666 Prophecy Discussion.

In Boston an underground central artery roadway is being built, "The Big Dig", at a cost of billions of federal reserve notes, which has been called by some "The Road to Hell" because the cost keeps growing (current estimate 14.4 Billion Federal Reserve Notes for the 7.5 mile highway, sounds expensive, doesn't it?). "The Road to Hell is paved with good intentions". This site on this page discusses why the Big Dig may be connected holographically with events in the world. This page has photos of The Taxpayers' Bridge.

School Report.

Excerpt of a school report entitled the The Taxpayers' Bridge: (A+)

"The taxpayers of Boston are in a state of utter chaos now, over the past decade, and for a few more years to come. This chaos in the traffic and the congestion of movement through the downtown district is a direct result from the agents' largest construction project named the 'Big Dig.' This construction project is an attempt to fix the Massachusetts agents' highway dilemma in Boston. The elevated Central Artery was built over 50 years ago and was designed to hold 75,000 vehicles daily. Current daily traffic volumes on the system have reached 190,000 vehicles, almost 3-fold the designed volume and flow. Traffic congestion today exists for up to 8-hours and is expected to reach 15-hour jams by 2010. During the construction of the elevated Central Artery system in the 1950’s more than 20,000 people had to be relocated and 1,000 structures were demolished. Due to this existing traffic congestion mixed with the location of nearby structures relative to the existing thoroughfare, the only solution is to build underneath and underground what already exists. The agents of this project have encountered countless setbacks, huge cost overruns, and carries a bad stigma along for the ride. Until recently the taxpayers of Boston have only viewed more traffic congestion resulting from the project since construction is ongoing beneath the city. The bridge at the end of the tunnel has finally been reached, and named The Taxpayers' Bridge, in honor of those who funded it.

~snip~

The bridge is also a memorial to the great taxpayers who worked tirelessly througout their lives to build ‘bridges between taxpayers'. As a regional agent pointed out, 'great taxpayers reach out to other taxpayers to reestablish taxpayer relations.'

From the practice of a Jewish custom, stones were gathered from the site of the Bunker Hill Monument and were encased into The Taxpayers' Bridge. This action memorialized 'all those taxpayers who have fought for freedom, truth, and justice - from the taxpayers who died at Bunker Hill to the Charlestown taxpayers who died for their agents in valiant struggle for truth, justice and freedom' (Bishop Murphy)."

"The Skyway Bridge in Tampa, FL is said to be the #3 bridge in the US for suicides. If you're really bored, you can participate in the pool to guess the date of the next Skyway Bridge jumper", writes Frida.

Ed. Note - The Skyway Bridge also took part in an Arkansas Bridge style collision, too.

._//A Bridge To Nowhere\\_.

A blog by Scotty Jay:

Q: What does "a bridge to nowhere" mean?

A: It just means that my site doesn't lead anywhere. It has no "other side" no real purpose or meaning. If a bridge had no "other side" it would be rather uselsess. Well my site is pretty useless. Get it?

13. Why is your site called, "a bridge to nowhere", and why all the other bridge references (photo, footer quote)?

A: "A bridge to nowhere" is just a metaphor for my site. There really is nothing here. I imagine people who come to my site wait for the huge graphics to load, and then go what the fuck is this?!?! Lets turn around and go home.... Get it?

5. What is your earliest memory?

A: My earliest significant memory is when my family and I traveled across country to go to a wedding. I was 3. The most specific detail from the trip was crossing a canyon on a rope bridge. My dickhead half brother thought it would be funny to swing the bridge. I have just gotten over my fear of bridges...

2. What is the one thing people have to do when they visit Long Island?

A: Cross a bridge. {=-P

Overseers' Statement.

"The Massachusetts taxpayers' newest bridge in Boston, named The Taxpayers' Bridge, in honor of those who funded it, is the widest cable-stayed bridge ever built. It floats above the Charles River as part of the Big Dig highway construction project, the most expensive overall highway construction project ever to be managed by the agents of the United States taxpayers. Bechtel has been overseeing the project for the past 15 years in a joint-venture with New York-based civil design firm Parsons Brinckerhoff. The Big Dig, which will reunite the taxpayers' historic waterfront with its downtown commercial and financial districts, replaces a no-name 50-year-old elevated highway system and promises relief from traffic gridlock.

Massachusetts taxpayers are already becoming known for their new bridge. The taxpayers of Atlanta and other taxpayers have requested similar bridge designs. Swiss bridge designer Christian Menn won approval for his willowy cable-stayed bridge, a design that ties cables from the roadbed directly to the support towers. Uncommon to United States agents (until now), the style became popular with European agents after World War II.

Menn's Boston interpretation of the cable-stayed bridge was graceful, contemporary, and unlike any other. Asymmetrical, it carries two outer lanes cantilevered on its east side. An additional eight lanes pass through the legs of the twin 91-meter, obelisk-topped, inverted Y towers that echo the nearby Bunker Hill Monument. The 10-lane, 56-meter-wide structure will pick up Interstate 93 traffic as it emerges from the new Central Artery tunnel and carry it across the Charles River to points north.

With construction finished, the bridge must wait until sections of the Big Dig are completed in the fall of 2002 before it can carry taxpayers in motor cars. Until then, the bridge will be patched, coated, and studded with white and sapphire-blue lights for evening shimmer, hovering over the Charles like a resplendent vision."

It Damned Well Better Work.

Agents of the taxpayers admire the Big Dig for its logic and its ingenious solutions to astonishing complexity. Indeed they should. The placement of the elegant white stays on The Taxpayers' Bridge, for example, was determined by the horrific steel superstructure of the Storrow Drive exit off of I-93 hanging over it. (The formal name of this span is destined to be a Trivial Pursuit answer. I've heard no one, but no one, call it anything other than "The Taxpayers' Bridge.")

There was simply no room to attach them at the edges, as is normally the case, so they were sited in the middle of the bridge as it begins its 5-degree elevation from the FleetCenter. Then, with adequate breathing room, the stays went out to the sides at the main section of the bridge and, for symmetry, came to the middle again on the far side. The result is the gorgeous hybrid.

The stays, by the way, are wrapped in spiral sheaths to keep the rainwater from accumulating on them. Were that to happen, they would eventually warp the harmonics of the bridge and tear it apart.

Make no mistake, the Big Dig contruction project is still the project from hell for any taxpayer who has endured its endless, awful gestation. The parliament of cranes that looms over the construction chaos at the South Bay Interchange reminds taxpayers of that. But now it has a wisp of a chance to redeem itself. It has been a metaphor for everything bad long enough. Now, it damned well better work.
